Why Mutianyu Great Wall is the Best Destination for a Family Trip
Not long ago, a guest reached out to me. They were eager to visit the Great Wall but worried about tiring out the elderly and children in the family. Their goal was to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable trip that took everyone’s physical condition into account. So, I recommended visiting the Mutianyu Great Wall in the afternoon and specifically chose the middle section route. The result was fantastic: both the elderly and the children had a great time, and the photos turned out stunning.
With so many Great Wall sections, why pick Mutianyu? Compared to the crowded Badaling, Mutianyu offers a touch more tranquility and grandeur. Its beautiful scenery allows the elderly to stroll comfortably and gives children ample space to frolic. As a photographer aiming to capture natural and heart – warming moments, I find it a paradise.
Costs and Transportation
Cost Details: The entrance ticket is 40 yuan per person (free for minors). The shuttle bus costs 15 yuan per person. For both the cable car and the slide, it’s 100 yuan for a one – way trip and 140 yuan for a round – trip. Children under 1.2 meters are free of charge. It’s important to note that the cable car and the slide are operated by different companies, so their tickets are not interchangeable. If you plan to take the cable car up and the slide down, it will cost 100 + 100 = 200 yuan.
Transportation Options: If you choose to drive, hire a car, or take a Didi, it will take about 1.5 hours to reach the scenic area entrance, but you’ll need to transfer to a shuttle bus to get inside. I highly recommend the Mutianyu special – line bus provided by the Beijing Tourism Distribution Center. With a round – trip fare of 80 yuan, it will take you directly into the scenic area, saving you the cost of the shuttle bus.
